Every impactful organisation begins with people who choose action over indifference. Behind Friends of Girls Africa (FoGA) are two young Ghanaian leaders whose shared passion for community development, gender equality, and youth empowerment has grown into a movement dedicated to transforming lives across Africa.
United by friendship, purpose, and a commitment to creating opportunities for others, Co Founders Godsway Cofie Obro Boateng and Christel Comfort Agbemafle are building an organisation that believes every young person deserves the chance to reach their full potential.

Godsway Cofie Obro Boateng

Godsway Cofie Obro Boateng is a Ghanaian gender advocate, youth leader, and development practitioner whose work focuses on gender equality, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development.
A proud alumnus of Manya Krobo Senior High School, where he served as the Senior Boys’ School Prefect for the Class of 2017, Godsway has continued to demonstrate leadership beyond the classroom. He holds academic backgrounds in Political Science from the University of Ghana and International Gender Studies from the University of Iceland.
Professionally, he serves as a Programme Assistant at the Environmental Protection Authority Ghana, contributing to environmental governance and sustainable development initiatives.
His dedication to advancing gender equality has earned international recognition. In 2024, he was selected as a UNESCO GRÓ GEST Fellow and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in International Gender Studies in Iceland. The following year, he represented Ghana as the country’s sole delegate at the 2025 Global Youth Summit in Cape Town, South Africa.
Beyond these achievements, Godsway is driven by a simple but powerful belief. The empowerment of women and girls is not solely the responsibility of women. Men and boys must also become active partners in building equitable, inclusive, and sustainable societies.
That philosophy has become one of the guiding principles of Friends of Girls Africa. At FoGA, it is more than an organisational value. It is the foundation upon which the organisation continues to grow.
Christel Comfort Agbemafle

Christel Comfort Agbemafle is a Ghanaian youth leader, writer, development practitioner, and advocate whose commitment to community service has been shaped by years of working directly with underserved communities across Ghana.
Since 2020, she has dedicated herself to initiatives that improve education, health, mentorship, and youth development.
Her journey began with Health Support Foundation, where she travelled extensively through remote communities in the Eastern, Central, and Volta Regions. Those experiences introduced her to communities where reaching beneficiaries often meant navigating footpaths and crossing rivers by canoe. It was during these outreach programmes that she developed a lasting passion for community centred development.
She later joined VivaHealth Medical Foundation, working alongside Randy Tawiah, Carl Nutsugah, and a team of volunteers to educate girls and women on menstrual hygiene while promoting menstrual health solutions and mentoring young people.
Her commitment to educational equity also took her across Ghana’s northern belt with School of Thoughts Ghana. Together with Abraham Agoni and his team, she contributed to literacy initiatives in the Savannah, Northern, Upper West, and North East Regions, helping bridge educational gaps between northern and southern Ghana. Among the many journeys was a memorable road trip from Wa to Accra that lasted almost twenty four hours, a reminder that meaningful impact often requires sacrifice.
These experiences did not provide financial rewards. Instead, they nurtured something even more valuable: a deep sense of purpose that continues to shape her leadership today.
Professionally, Christel serves as an International Liaison with the United Kingdom’s Home Office International Operations in Ghana. She previously completed her National Service at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office at the British High Commission in Accra.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Affairs at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy, University of Ghana, and is a member of the Global Shapers Community, a World Economic Forum initiative that empowers young leaders to create positive change within their communities.
Like her co founder, Christel also traces her leadership journey back to Manya Krobo Senior High School, where she served as Senior Girls’ School Prefect for the Class of 2017. She is also a proud first generation university graduate, a milestone that continues to inspire her commitment to expanding educational opportunities for others.
A Friendship That Became a Mission
Christel and Godsway have known each other for more than twelve years, having first met at Manya Krobo Senior High School in 2014. Over the years, their shared passion for service, leadership, and community development strengthened into a vision they could no longer ignore.
That vision became Friends of Girls Africa.
Together, they established FoGA to create opportunities they believe every young African deserves. Their work is rooted in education, mentorship, leadership development, health and wellbeing, economic empowerment, and human rights advocacy.
While FoGA places particular emphasis on empowering girls and young women, it also actively engages boys and men as partners in building inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
For both founders, FoGA is more than an organisation. It is a promise to give back to the communities that shaped them, to invest in the next generation of leaders, and to ensure that young people are equipped with the knowledge, support, and opportunities they need to build brighter futures.
They know what it means to come from a community. They know what it means to be given a chance. Today, through Friends of Girls Africa, they are committed to becoming that chance for others.
