Ghana sealed a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a professional 1–0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian and Tottenham Hospur forward scored in the 47th minute to clinch top spot in CAF Group I. Thus enabling the Black Stars to book their fifth World Cup appearance.

What It Means For Otto Addo

Head coach Otto Addo has become the first Black Stars manager to qualify Ghana for two successive World Cups. He first led the team to Qatar 2022 and now to USA/Canada/Mexico 2026. This is a milestone no previous Ghana coach achieved.

How Ghana Black Stars Got Qualified To The World Cup

  • Result: Ghana 1- 0 Comoros
  • Scorer: Mohammed Kudus 47′
  • Venue: Accra Sports Stadium

The victory confirmed Ghana as Group I winners. Ghana only needed a point going into the final match, and would have qualified even without the win after Madagascar lost 4 – 1 at Mali earlier in the day.

Ghana World Cup Appearances

Ghana’s World Cup qualifications came in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022 and 2026. As a matter of fact, previous campaigns were overseen by different coaches, which is why Otto Addo’s back-to-back qualification achievement stands out in the team’s modern era.

Ghana’s preparations now shift to FIFA World Cup 2026, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Ghana will aim to reach the knockouts for the first time since 2010.
