NPP Disowns Abronye & Chairman Wontumi Remarks

NPP Rebukes Abronye & Chairman Wontumi

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally distanced itself from controversial statements made by two of its regional chairmen: Abronye, and  Wontumi. The NPP asserted that the comments do not reflect the party’s principles.

In a press release monitored by GhanaView News on September 28, 2025, which was signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party urged the public to disregard recent remarks from Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe.

The Genesis Of The Issues Rebuked By The NPP

1. Polling station album control

Mr. Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye has allegedly implied he could exert influence over the compilation process. However, the national leadership countered by stating that “no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.”

2. Timing of presidential primaries

Mr. Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi alleged that the decision to hold the NPP’s presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was biased, favoring a particular aspirant. Moreover, the party responded by calling the allegation unfounded, explaining that the date was chosen strategically to allow adequate time for reorganization for the 2028 elections.

The statement released by the NPP has the caption:

“The New Patriotic Party reiterates its dedication to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all internal processes. No individual has control over the compilation of polling station albums, and we refute claims that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date favours any aspirant. The leadership assures stakeholders that every decision is made in the supreme interest of the Party to ensure unity and victory in 2028.”
