NIA starts Ghana Card issuance for ages 6 – 14

The National Identification Authority (NIA) begins issuing Ghana Card to children aged 6 to 14 today, Monday, October 6, 2025. According to the NIA, the first phase of this initiative covers 56 districts and serves children who already completed registration.
The cards will be handed out at the same schools where the registrations occurred. Moreover, each child must attend in person with a parent or legal guardian, who should bring the registration receipt (Form A).

- Rollout starts on Oct 6, 2025 for children at ages 6 to 14 who are already registered.
- 56 districts in phase one, however more districts will follow.
- Ghana Cards to be collected at original registration schools; child + parent/guardian must be present with Form A.
- NIA says the backlog of unprinted cards is cleared; new registration dates for this age group will be announced.
Details About NIA Ghana Card Issuance
The Ghana Card is fast becoming the default ID for accessing public and private services. Thus, the NIA has extended issuance to school-age children, strengthening its service access, and also helping it keep records consistent from an early age, and supports a more complete National Identity Register.
As announced by the NIA, registration has been completed and currently they are issuing the Ghana Cards for school – age children.
NIA Ghana Card Issuance Timeline
- Sept 10, 2025: NIA announced registration for ages 6–14 at Premium Centres nationwide (separate from today’s school-based issuance).
- May 2025: NHIA partnered with NIA to help clear backlogs for registered children, paving the way for smoother issuance.
- Oct 6, 2025: Issuance begins in 56 districts for children already registered, with remaining districts to follow.
How To Collect Your Child’s Ghana card
- Location: Go to the same school where your child registered.
- Attendance: You should go along with your child.
- Requirement: You should also go along with the registration receipt (Form A) issued on registration day.

First-time registration for Ghanaians living in Ghana is free at NIA District Offices, however Premium Centres attract a fee.
