Public Holidays In Ghana 2025 & Commemorative Days

Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior has announced the 2025 schedule of statutory public holidays and commemorative days, underlining changes from previous years and clarifying how substitution of holidays works under the new law.

Ghana’s 2025 Statutory Public Holidays
Below are the 2025 Statutory Public Holidays:

Commemorative Days (Non‑Holiday Observances)
These days are recognized and observed, but they are not public holidays:
- African Union Day: 25 May

Substitution Regulations for Ghana’s Holidays
The 2025 Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act introduced flexibility around dates:
- If a holiday falls on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, the President may declare Monday or Friday as a substitute holiday.
- If a holiday lands on Saturday or Sunday, the next Monday may be declared a public holiday.
- Exceptions: Substitution does not apply to Eid‑ul‑Fitr, Shaqq Day, Eid‑ul‑Adha, Christmas Day, or Boxing Day.
