The accident occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, as a National Ambulance Service vehicle from Nkawkaw was crashed at Afosu in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Emergency officials say the ambulance rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its side. Preliminary findings also point to a suspected brake failure as the cause. The vehicle, registration GV-567-20, had been operating out of Nkawkaw.

Fire Service Response To The Accident

According to the New Abirem Municipal Fire Station, they received a distress call at about 2:30 p.m. and dispatched a seven-member rescue team led by LFM Tenkorang Ofori Prince. Consequently, responders extricated victims, secured the crash scene, and supported onward transfer to hospital.

Firefighters went ahead to remove debris and cleared blood stains to restore traffic flow. They also recovered critical medical equipment from the damaged ambulance including a ventilator and cardiac monitor to prevent secondary losses. Ghana Police Service personnel managed traffic and assisted with the initial investigation.

No fatalities were reported at the time of filing. Authorities added that, a formal probe will confirm the exact cause and assess the vehicle’s maintenance records and operational status at the time of the crash.
