First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama has been honoured with a prestigious traditional title in recognition of her contributions to community healthcare development. The Paramount Chief of the Akroso Asukawkaw Traditional Area in the Oti Region has enstooled her as Nana Oseadeeyo Odenwa II, celebrating her efforts to improve maternal and child health in the community and beyond.

The enstoolment ceremony took place on 1 March 2026, during the commissioning of an ultramodern maternity and children’s ward built by the Lordina Foundation in Asukawkaw. The facility aims to dramatically enhance access to quality health services for expectant mothers, newborns and young children in the Krachi East Municipality.

Significance of Lordina Mahama Enstoolment

Nana Odam Gyamfi III, the Paramount Chief who conferred the title, emphasised that the honour reflects Mrs Mahama’s “relentless efforts to bring effective and efficient healthcare delivery” to rural communities. He described the new maternity and children’s ward as a lifeline for families in the area, where women once faced long, risky journeys to access basic medical care.

The traditional title, “Nana Oseadeeyo Odenwa II” recognises the First Lady’s dedication to social development and her growing influence as a champion of community health.

Local elders and residents also attended the ceremony, marking the occasion with celebration and expressions of gratitude for her philanthropic leadership.

In her address, Mrs Lordina Mahama said the facility was built to ensure that no woman dies while giving life and no child is deprived of proper care due solely to location. Her comments highlight a broader drive to reduce maternal and infant mortality in underserved parts of Ghana.

The Asukawkaw project is the fourth maternity and children’s ward completed and handed over by the Lordina Foundation, following earlier facilities in Bole, Nkoranza and Bodom, as well as renovations at health centres in Hohoe and Adabraka. These interventions are part of the Foundation’s long-term strategy to expand access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations nationwide.

Lordina Mahama Traditional Recognition and Broader Significance

Traditional honours such as the one bestowed on Mrs Lordina Mahama play a significant cultural role in Ghana, reinforcing communal values and recognising individuals whose work has meaningful social impact. The conferment of Nana Oseadeeyo Odenwa II reflects not only personal recognition but also the deep community appreciation for initiatives that address critical gaps in public health infrastructure.

The title adds to a list of traditional honours and leadership roles associated with Lordina Mahama’s philanthropic footprint, which has included previous enstoolments and recognition for her community engagement and advocacy.
