Shatta Wale Released from EOCO Custody After Bail Reduction

Popular Ghanaian Dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after successfully meeting his bail conditions.
Initially, EOCO set bail at GH¢10 million with two sureties, a condition many described as harsh and excessive. However, after deliberations, the requirement was reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties, paving the way for the artiste’s release.
Confirming the news, Samuel Akuoku Baah (Sammy Flex), Head of Media Relations for Shatta Movement, expressed relief and gratitude.
“The good news is that Shatta Wale has been released.
Finally, at the moment, once again, another good news is that the bail conditions were reduced from GH¢10 million to GH¢5 million with two sureties, and that is what we are all happy about,” he told the press.
Sammy Flex further thanked the media, fans, and well-wishers who stood firmly behind the artiste during the ordeal, assuring that Shatta Wale himself will speak to his fans at the right time.
Shatta Wale’s legal troubles stem from his alleged involvement in a case surrounding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which US authorities flagged as part of a $4 million fraud case linked to Ghanaian businessman Nana Kwabena Amuah, currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.
The luxury vehicle, seized from Shatta Wale in May 2025, was later ordered forfeited by a US District Court in Kentucky earlier this month.
According to EOCO, Shatta Wale failed to provide credible ownership documents for the Lamborghini. He is reported to have told investigators that he bought the car “from the street” through an individual only identified as “ZAK.”
The news of his release has sparked mixed reactions across social media.
- Supporters of Shatta Wale celebrated the bail reduction, calling it a victory for the Dancehall King and his loyal fan base, the Shatta Movement—many trended hashtags such as #FreeShatta and #SM4Lyf in celebration.
- Critics, however, have urged EOCO to remain firm and ensure that justice is served, warning against celebrity privilege in ongoing investigations.
Despite the divided opinions, the story has kept Ghanaians engaged, with discussions about how celebrities acquire luxury assets and the role of law enforcement in holding them accountable.
With his release, all eyes are now on Shatta Wale’s next move. His legal team is expected to continue contesting the allegations, while EOCO maintains its investigation into the luxury car and its connection to the US fraud case.
Meanwhile, Sammy Flex has assured fans that the Dancehall star will eventually break his silence and share his side of the story. Until then, Shatta Wale is expected to remain focused on his music career while complying with bail conditions.
Shatta Wale’s case highlights the growing scrutiny around high-value assets owned by celebrities in Ghana. It also raises broader conversations about the intersection of fame, wealth, and accountability, as well as the responsibility of public figures to set an example.
For now, fans are just relieved that their icon is back home, and many are waiting for his first official address to the Shatta Movement family.
