GES Announces Mid-Term Break for Public Basic Schools

-

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a two-day mid-term break for all public basic schools across the country.

According to the Service, the break will be observed on Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, 2026, during which teaching and learning activities will be suspended.

The directive applies to all public basic schools, including Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools nationwide.

GES explained that the break forms part of the academic calendar and is intended to provide both pupils and teachers with a short period of rest before academic work resumes.

Parents and guardians have been advised to take note of the dates and make the necessary arrangements for their children during the break period.

School authorities are also expected to communicate the schedule to learners and ensure that students return to school promptly after the holiday.

The announcement comes as schools continue academic activities for the term, with education authorities emphasizing the importance of adhering to the approved calendar.

Following the two-day break, schools are expected to resume normal teaching and learning activities as scheduled by the Ghana Education Service.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that periodic breaks can help improve student well-being, reduce fatigue and support effective learning in the classroom.

GES has therefore encouraged all parents, teachers and school administrators to comply with the directive to ensure a smooth continuation of the academic term.
