The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, outlining key reporting dates, vacation periods, online learning schedules, and examination timelines for both Single Track and Transitional Schools.
According to the approved calendar, Form One and Form Two students in Single Track Schools are expected to report to school on September 18, 2026, where they will remain on campus until January 29, 2027 for the first semester. The second semester is scheduled to begin on February 23, 2027, and end on July 2, 2027.
For Form Three students in Single Track Schools, the academic year will commence on September 18, 2026, and continue until November 27, 2026, after which they will proceed on study leave in preparation for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The calendar also provides schedules for Transitional Schools. Form One students are expected to begin with an off campus learning period before reporting for in person classes, while Form Two students will alternate between school based and off campus learning periods throughout the academic year. Form Three students in Transitional Schools will continue academic activities leading up to their final examinations.
In a statement announcing the calendar, GES said the schedule is intended to guide school authorities, teachers, students, parents, and guardians in planning effectively for the new academic year.
The Service urged all stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the approved dates and make the necessary preparations ahead of reopening.
“GES urges all stakeholders to take note of the approved dates and make the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and successful academic year,” the statement noted.
The release of the calendar is expected to provide certainty for schools and families as preparations begin for the next academic year, while helping educational institutions effectively organize teaching, learning, examinations, and other academic activities.
Education observers have welcomed the early publication of the schedule, noting that it will enable students, parents, and school administrators to plan adequately and avoid disruptions during the academic year.
The Ghana Education Service has therefore encouraged strict adherence to the calendar to ensure that instructional hours are fully observed and educational objectives achieved across all SHSs and SHTSs nationwide.
