12 Cleared to Contest NDC Tamale Central Parliamentary Primary

NDC Deputy General Secretary Barbara Serwaa Asamoah

The party’s vetting committee, led by Deputy General Secretary Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, completed the process on August 31, 2025. Balloting was also done to fix their positions on the ballot.

The primary will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

Notable Aspirants to Contest NDC Tamale Central Parliamentary Primary

The cleared candidates include:

  1. Abdul Hanan Abdul Rahaman Gundadoo, former Tamale Metro Chief Executive.
  2. Seidu Mohammed, researcher at UDS.
  3. Mariama Naama Salifu, diplomat.
  4. Dr. Rahman Abdul Rashid.
  5. Dr. Aliu Abdul Hamid, civil engineer.
  6. Prof. Razak Abubakari, lecturer at Tamale Technical University.
  7. Alhaji Alhassan Nbalba, former NDC UK/Ireland Chairman.
  8. Prof. Seidu Alidu, former Political Science Head, UG Legon.
  9. Hajia Muliaka Sualisu.
  10. Sadat Harun Alhassan, lawyer.
  11. Alhassan Osman Gomda, entrepreneur.
  12. Hajia Shamima Yakubu, NDC Northern Regional Treasurer.

This year, three women are in the race. THE Deputy General Secretary, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, Asamoah called it a welcome development.

She urged all aspirants to run civil and respectful campaigns. Moreover, she warned against division in the party. Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John also advised supporters to avoid violence.

Reason For This By-Election Context

The by-election follows the death of MP Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. He died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The Electoral Commission has fixed the by-election for September 30, 2025. The NPP will not field a candidate.
